What you can't see can hurt you. Don't be left in the dark about FT-IR instrument performance. It's important to understand what information lies beyond the standard 4000 to 400 cm- ' spectral range. Be aware that many systems lose energy at 400 cm-' and go non-linear beyond 4000 cm-'. Nicolet's the exception—our standard spectral range is from 7400 to 350 cm- ' which includes critical parts of the far and near-IR range. Without this extended range, important absorbances are unavailable for T ral quantitative or qualitative analysis. The absorbances at 385 and 358 cm ~ ' confirm the identity of the inorganic additive.

For example, inorganics absorb below 400 cm- ' and the region above 4000 cm ' is especially important for quantitative analysis of high concentrations.
