HP's Dieter Hoehn announces retirement Hewlett Packard has announced that Dieter Hoehn, vice president and general manager of the An alytical Products Group (APG), will retire in 1996. Rich ard D. Kniss, gen eral manager of HP's Optical Com munication Divi sion, took over Hoehn's duties as general manager of APG on May 1. Until his retire ment, Hoehn will continue to oversee the bioscience program in HP's Measurement Systems Organization. After retirement, Hoehn will advise HP on a part-time basis. Hoehn joined HP in 1965 as a research and development engineer in the compa ny's Boeblingen, Germany, Instrument Di vision. In 1968, he moved to HP's Avondale Division, where he held various posi tions in R&D. After a return stint in Germany at the Waldbronn Division, he was promoted in 1977 to division general manager with worldwide responsibility for HP's liquid chromatography product line, a position he held until 1984, when he be-
came general manager of APG. He was named an HP vice president in 1987. Kniss joined HP in 1968 as a product sales engineer in Palo Alto. In 1972, he was promoted to man ager of product marketing and sales engineering in the Optoelec tronics Division and in 1980 became marketing man ager for the Components Group. He had been general manager of the Optical Com munications Division since 1983. Millipore sells electrophoresis business Oxford Glycosystems (U.K.) has signed an agreement with Millipore Corp. (Bed ford, MA) to acquire Millipore's electro phoresis business for an unspecified combination of equity and royalties on sales. The move, which follows Millipore's previous sales of its Waters, BioSearch, and Bio Image businesses, represents the divestment of the last business unit that does not rely on Millipore's core mem brane technology.
NOMINATIONS • Gold Medal award Nominations are requested for the 1995 Gold Medal given by the New York section of the Society for Applied Spectroscopy. The award, established in 1952 to recog nize outstanding contributions to the field of applied spectroscopy, will be pre sented at a special symposium at the 1996 Eastern Analytical Symposium in Somerset, NJ.
