Acylation and Alkylation of Aminoboronic Acids

The syntheses of organohoron compounds which me have carried o ~ t have ~ - ~ been based oii their possible utilization in the therapy of brain tumors by neutron capture irradiation. The study in CaH mice with subcutaneous brain tumors has ~ h o n . n that ~ , ~ organohoron compouiicls with hydrophilic groups offer the most pronii~efor this type of treatment. On this hasis it seemed desirable to preparc' boron compounds with carboxylic acid functions hlany with the carboxyl group attached directly to the aromatic ring2,5b6had been prepared and tested. Their utility prompted the synthesis of organoboron compounds containing an aliphatic rarboxylic acid group. Ahylationand alkylation of a compound such as nz-amiiiobenzeiieboroiiic acid would permit the introdwtion of such a group. However, the stability of the boronic acid moiety in simple sroinatic compouiids has been showi?~'-" in n variety of systems to w r y aiid t o hc dcpciidciii upoii suhstitrieiit s. It was coiisiclered possible, t hcrefore, that acylation and alkylation of nniinobeiixenehoroiiic acids might occur with loss of the borono group, even though acylaiiotis of such amine5 have been in certain instanc~~s i t ithout cLlcavageof the carlion-boron 1ink:ige.
