Notices, Division of Chemical Education CHED Committee and Task Force Meetings; Special Events ■
Several CHED committees will meet in Boston, and most of the meetings are open. If you are interested in becoming more involved in the Division, this is a good way to find the areas in which you can contribute. The dates and times of the committee meetings that have been tentatively planned for Boston are listed below; all will be in the Colonnade Hotel with the exception of the Business Meeting & Social Hour (which will be in the Hilton Boston Back Bay Hotel). Center. Joining DivCHED: What’s in It for Me? will be a special DivCHED informational poster section at Sci-Mix. Do you teach chemistry? Are you involved in chemical education research? Do you have a special interest in high school or 2-year college chemistry? How about using computers or laboratory experiences to facilitate the teaching and learning of chemistry? Are you concerned with advancing chemical education internationally? Or the teaching of safety as a part of our discipline? Do you want to add your twocents worth to programming at national and regional meetings? How about using the Web as a communication tool to advance our efforts? If the answer is yes to any of the above, then you owe it to yourself visit this CHED poster to learn about the many benefits that come from membership in CHED and involvement in its many initiatives.

Division Social Hour and Banquet:
On Saturday the Social Hour begins at 6:30 p.m., dinner is at 7:30 p.m., followed by an Omni IMAX show; Skyline Room of the Museum of Science, Boston. Tickets (#102, $55) must be purchased in advance from ACS. General Posters and Social Hour: A Social Hour with a cash bar will accompany the Sunday evening General Poster Papers session, 7:30–9:30 p.m., in the Hynes Convention Center. High School/College Inter face Luncheon: The luncheon will be from
11:50–1:15 p.m. on Monday in the Boston Park Plaza Hotel. Tickets (#107, $30) must be purchased in advance.

■ CHED-Sponsored Workshop Friday, August 16, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. and Saturday, August 17, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Teaching Science: Addressing Environmental Problems to Stimulate Undergraduate Learning
This workshop is for faculty who teach science to undergraduates. Discussions will include: •
How to use an environmental problem-solving approach to teaching science, where students use environmental impact analysis as a vehicle to learn relevant scientific techniques.

How to write funding proposals to help integrate this technique into the undergraduate curriculum.
