SCINTILLATORS-Big or
Valves
small, we make them all
Materials of construction is the word in valves. S t a n d a r d lines have been e x p a n d e d in size to a c c o m m o d a t e in creased need for t h r o u g h p u t . But the most noticeable trend is the wide variety of materials used. Corrosion resistant plastics, nongalling metalto-mctal surfaces, plastics-metal com binations are in the forefront. M o d ifications to basic combinations or replacement of plastics by a n o t h e r m e m b e r of the same family of plas tics makes the possible combinations almost u n e n d i n g and so the vises. Coupled with the materials picture are long service, low m a i n t e n a n c e , and smoother performance in the face of higher temperatures, greater pressure, a n d more corrosive and abrasive materials handled.

Farris Engineering Co. announces an automatic /lex valve for abrasive and corro sive service. Valve provides full capacity and unobstructed flow. Closes bubbletight on even small solids and will not freeze in outdoor service. Xonplugging valve is available in pure gum rubber, Buna S, Buna N, Xeoprene, Butyl, and combinations of each. Sizes. 7 to 12 inches.
Temperatures to 1000° F. are not too hot for Hills-McCanna's new ball valve models. ^McCannaseal^ valves use Graphitar seats to boost temperature limits for nonoxidizing liquids or gases from previous maximum of 600° F. (attained with reinforced Teflon). For oxidizing reagents the upper limit is 700° F. Allowable pressure, at high temperatures depends on valve body materials 316 Stainless is suitable
for pressures to 355p.s.i.g. at 1000-degree temperatures. Successful use of nonresilient high-temperature seals stems from new design —a spring forces the ball down into a wedge-seat arrangement to give leaktight closure. Valves come with screwed or socket weld end connections in 1- through 3-inch sizes; flanged ends, 7 inch through 8 inches. Take your choice of either manual or pneumatic operation.
Elastomer pinch valves are still coming along. RKL Controls is working on a new one—a process valve which is fully supported and offers prepinched design for longer
NUCLEONIC INSTRUMENTS Pulse Shape Discriminating detec tion head units and related electronics. Gamma rejection ratio of 500:1. Higher detection efficiencies than ZnS detectors for fast neutrons in the presence of gamma rays. Universal Radiation Monitor. A scintillation detector, transistorized, 2'/ 2 lbs in weight, versatile, suitable for Industrial Health Physics, or Civil Defense applications. Radioisotope Analyzer. Designed to enable the user to quickly check the identity of a radioisotope and also to measure its activity. Used with those isotopes which emit gamma rays. "Tinytector." Pocket edition dose meter covering dose range 0.5 to 200 R/hr., giving instantaneous readings of the radiation intensity. Dimensions: 4 5 / 8 " χ 2 5 /s" χ 1 s //'· Low price unit ideal for Civil Defense use and for civilian fall-out shelters. Other ranges available.
