The 37th Summer Cqnferenee was held a t Williams College, Williamstown, MA, from 11th t o 15 of August, 1975. The main theme was chemistry's connection with health. Prof, Samuel Massie of the US. Jeffs of Duke University, whose four lectures dealt largely with the identification of natural chemical products by spectroscopic means. Other medieal-chemical speakers were Professor Linda Slakey of the University of Massachusetts, who discussed artery wall structure in great detail; Dr. Lawrence Katlan of Williams on blood coagulation; and Dr. Richard Schultes of Harvard, who gave a well-illustrated talk on his explorations in South and Central America in search of plant hallucinogens. Prof. Ernest Spittler of John Carroll University, like the theme speaker, dwelt with the history of medical ideas. Less directly connected with the theme, hut no less interesting, were Dr. David Hume of MIT in his talk on marine chemical research, and a panel on careers held by Dr. Donald Bracken (moderator) of the University of Hartford, Ms. Patricia M. Lemaire of ACS, and Dr. Philip Brodsky of Monsanto. Dr. Bernard Wunderlich of Rensselaer Polytechnic completed the program with his talk on large and small molecules. Workshops on chemical safety, the Cambridge chem course, and audio courses made the afternoons interesting. Dr. Jean Frank deserves great praise for setting up the program, and Rev. Eueene C.
