pyrometer reading. The table gives observed tempera tures from 1000° to 3000° K. in incre ments of 50°, and from 10,000° to 39,000° K. in increments of 100°. True temperatures are tabulated for 49 emissivities ranging from 0.02 to 0.98 in in crements of 0.02. These calculations were made on a 650 electronic computer using Planck's law, and the value C 2 = 1.438 cm. deg. for the radiation constant.
This table enables optical pyrometer users to convert immediately the ob served temperature to the true tem perature, taking into consideration the effective emissivity of the observed ma terial. Conversely, the table can be used to determine the effective emissiv ity if the true temperature is known, by comparing this temperature with the

This catalog presents a complete list of all National Bureau of Standards publications issued between July 1, 1957 and June 30, 1960. It also in cludes papers published by members of the Bureau staff in outside journals from 1950 through 1959. Complete author and subject indexes are pro vided as well as instructions for obtain ing Bureau publications. This catalog is intended to accom pany NBS Circular 460 (1901-1947, $1.25) and Supplement to NBS Circu lar 460 (1947-1957, $1.50). The com plete set thus lists all scientific and technical publications published by the Bureau between its inception in 1901 and June 30, 1960. Volume I: Electricity and 845 pages. Volume I I : Mechanics. 965 pages. Optics, Metrology, and
Electronics. Heat and Volume III: Radiation.
1025 pages. Chief, Special Service Section, U. S. Government Printing Office, P. 0. Box 15SS, Washington 18, D. C. Prices: Vol. I, $6; Vol. II, $6.75; Vol. Ill, $7. These three volumes constitute a set on precision measurement and calibra tion. They consist of a compilation of the more important publications orig inally issued by the National Bureau of Standards over a period of years as circulars, research papers, chapters of books, and articles in scientific periodi cals. It is being published as a refer ence and handbook set for scientists and engineers engaged in precision measurement and calibration of stand ards.

Charles B. Childs. 8 pages. Na tional Aeronautics and Space Ad ministration, Washington, D. C. April, 1961. Copies available free from National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Washington 25, D. C. A brief survey of the materials used in three niters, developed for ultra violet non-dispersive photometers, with effective wave lengths of 2700A, 2600A, and 2210A, is covered in this booklet. Materials used were 2200A interference filters, NiS0 4 (H 2 0) B crystals, KCl:KBr:Pb crystals, cationX, and Corning filters 9-54 and 7-54. The filters have transmittances of 0.16, 0.23, and 0.10 at the respective effective wave lengths with corresponding bandwidths of 320A, 200A, and 330A.
