Stabilized formaldehyde
Formcel solutions
Celanese first developed i t ! Now, an improvement in stabilizing techniques allows even lower storage and s h i p p i n g t e m p e r a t u r e s . Celanese formaldehyde can be transported great distances in insulated t a n k cars w i t h o u t reheating. Celanese stabilized formaldehyde is noted f o r its constant assay, with a m i n i m u m of paraf o r m a t i o n and acid build-up. Available in both methanol inhibited and in uninhibited grades in standard concentrations of 3 7 % and 4 4 % . Higher concentrations of stabilized formaldehyde ( u p t o 5 0 % ) are available t o meet special customer requirements.
Celanese Formcels —solutions of formaldehyde in a variety of alcohols — p e r m i t batch sizes substantially larger than conventional 3 7 % f o r m a l i n solutions. It's almost like owning a larger reactor! Formcels speed production and boost yields of alcoholated urea and melamine resins f o r textile coatings and metal finishes. Their low watercontent minimizes or eliminates water removal steps, providing both economic and quality advantages. Celanese offers two grades of Methyl Formcel — containing 46.5% and 5 5 % formaldehyde; n-Butyl F o r m c e l — 4 0 % ; Isobutyl F o r m c e l — 4 0 % .
One of these 4 forms from Celanese is best for you Only Celanese offers all four basic forms of formaldehyde— each with specific processing and economic advantages.
Paraformaldehyde
Tnoxane Celanese trioxane is the only source of anhydrous formaldehyde —a valuable intermediate in t h e manufacture of highly specialized resins. To facilitate materials handling, trioxane is now being shipped in a new blow-molded polyethylene container, holding exactly 5 0 pounds of the material. Formerly packaged in fiber d r u m s in flake f o r m , Celanese trioxane is now poured into t h e polyethylene container in liquid f o r m and allowed t o solidify before s h i p m e n t . Removal of t h e solid trioxane is simple. The container is easily slit with a knife and peeled back f r o m the solid block of material in a matter of seconds.
Celanese para is a highly concentrated f o r m of formaldehyde ( 9 1 - 9 5 % ) . Manufacturers of highsolids urea, phenolic and resorcinol resins use Celanese p a r a f o r m a l d e h y d e because i t s low water content results in larger batches and higher yields, in shorter cycle and processing t i m e . This formaldehyde raw material route elimininates expensive storage tanks, pumps, pipe lines, heat exchangers and similar e q u i p m e n t normally essential t o t h e handling of liquids. Para can replace aqueous formaldehyde in most chemical reactions. Paraformaldehyde is available f r o m Celanese in flake f o r m , and in both fine and coarse powder.
