Twenty Years of Organic Letters: A Platinum Anniversary Collector’s Edition

As part of our platinum anniversary retro celebration, we will be showcasing over the coming year a series of Virtual Issues that highlight various themes, reflecting the capacious spirit that defines Organic Letters as the premier rapid communications journal in organic chemistry. As the first installment, we present a Virtual Issues collection of the most downloaded papers for each of the first 20 years of the journal’s existence, 1999−2018. The bandwidth of papers in this first Virtual Issue provides a snapshot of the evolution of organic synthesis over the two decades that inaugurated the 21st century. It brilliantly captures cutting-edge research in olefin metathesis, metalmediated coupling, organocatalysis, gold catalysis, cycloadditions, natural products syntheses, and biorthogonal chemistry. In subsequent Virtual Issues in this series, we will feature an assortment of scholarly publications that reflect the geographic diversity and global reach of our author base. It is worth noting that each Virtual Issue includes a limited set of Letters, thereby reflecting but a small sliver of the broader scientific coverage in organic chemistry. Organic Letters owes its success to the legions of authors and reviewers who have chosen to publish their top work in the journal. Over the past two decades, Organic Letters has earned a reputation for ensuring the highest quality of data that underpins the science published. This commitment to experimental integrity and technical validity has been deeply rooted since the very first issue in 1999. It reflects a shared vision of excellence involving the community of authors, readers, researchers, and referees, along with the Editorial Board and ACS professional staff working behind the scenes. Our Virtual Issues series is sure to inspire the next generation of high-caliber research that will find its way into Organic Letters.
