Our new surfactant is gentle in cosmetics. It's also Benax® 2A1 is its name. (Composition: sodium salt of dodecylated diphenyl ether disulfonate.) It can give your shampoo or cosmetic preparation surfactancy with low skin and eye irritation properties. Or it can keep its high stability, solubility and surfactancy in your strong aqueous solutions of acids, bases, salts. We boiled it for three days in 10% sodium hydroxide, kept it at 90°C. for 1 week in 20% sulfuric acid. We stored it a week in 10% chromic acid, and two months in 20% nitric acid at room temperatures. We heated it to 250°C. for 24 hours. And still no •o.ss of surface-active properties.

soluble, stable and surface-active in highly alkaline cleaners. We tested it for skin and eye irritation and found it lower than surfactants used in today's shampoos and cosmetics. Where will this detergent-wetting agent-emulsifier-solubilizer work for you? Emulsion polymerization is one place. Benax 2A1 surfactant is an excellent emulsifier and stabilizer for most latex systems. Another: Benax 2A1 will solubilize many waterinsoluble compounds (such as phenolics) into aqueous solutions at low pH. Other strong aqueous solutions, too. In acid pickling, Benax 2A1 speeds up scale removal, provides a foam blanket and Inhibits acid attack on base metal. Or in alkaline cleaners, it

will solubilize other surfactants into such media. Benax 2A1 can be defoamed by solubilizing low-foaming non-ionics which would normally be insoluble in the cleaner. Or in strong electrolyte solutions: Benax 2A1 is soluble in concentrated phosphate solutions. And it will couple other surfactants into this medium. And so on. Benax 2A1 has a place in any application where an anionic surfactant is important. Where a non-ionic surfactant is called for, ask about our Dowfax® surfactants. Do it now.
