..Hottest Things for Fast-Drying Inks o°c An ink is only as good as its resin. Pentalyn K is recognized as the number one resin for formulating heatset, solvent-type inks to meet today's faster printing speeds—especially for multicolor, multimillion-circulation magazines. An extremely hard, amber-colored resin, Pentalyn K has the highest softening point (189-197°C) of any Pentalyn resin, yet retains excellent solubility in low KB ink oils. It has outstanding solvent release, excellent pigment stability, and is highly resistant to emulsification. By virtue of its high melting point, heat-set inks based on Pentalyn Kexhibitoutstandingfreedom from blocking in the pile and resistance to resoftening and transfer at elevated temperatures. For letterpress or offset, Pentalyn K contributes to printing inks an unequal led combination of highspeed drying and high quality results. An ink is only as good as its resin. Pentalyn 833 is a specially modified phenolic resin for quick-set offset inks with high gloss and excellent holdout. Unique

among phenolics, it has the unusual property of imparting high viscosity to solutions and, at the same time, showing excellent tolerance for low KB solvents. Oil dispersions made with this resin build high viscosity while maintaining good flow properties, and tolerate considerable reduction with low solvency ink oils. Its excellent solubility in drying oils permits stable oil dispersions of Pentalyn 833 to be made quickly at very low temperatures (350°F). This assures maximum holdout, minimum color, and increased production efficiency. With a softening point of 182-188°C, Pentalyn 833 is extremely hard...ideal not only for high-speed, litho publication inks, but for carton inks, "non-scratch" ink vehicles, overprint varnishes. If you concur that an ink is only as good as its resin, particularly at today's higher press speeds, you will want to learn more about these two Pentalyn resins.
