EDNALITE Air-borne radiation detector system shown warns against over-tolerance levels of tritium or other radioactive gases in the atmosphere. Called the 9160 Tritium Monitor, the instrument gives a reading of average dose levels and gives a rapid, positive warning of accidental spills with a self-contained alarm. The instrument can be used as a permanently stationed area alarm or can be easily carried from one laboratory to another for survey monitoring. It finds use in accelerator laboratories using tritium targets and at biological research or clinical testing laboratories counting carbon14 or tritium samples. Dissolved Oxygen Analyzer An instrument for measuring concentrations of dissoh'ed oxygen is based on a system designed by F. J, H. Mackereth of the Freshwater Biological Association. The instrument, which is portable and battery powered, comprises an electrochemical cell which contains two electrodes with a large surface area. The electrolyte is a saturated solution of potassium bicarbonate in a membrane of polyethylene tubing. A linear relation between dissolved oxygen and instrument reading and an overall accuracy ± 1 % over the temperature range 0-30° C. have been achieved. W. G.
