Especially designed for Gel Filtration Chromatography Ion Exchange Chromatography

Sephadex Laboratory Columns A product of over six years' research know-how brings you these "exclusive" column features: 1 AQUEOUS AND ORGANIC SOLVENT SYS TEM C O L U M N S — o n l y c o l u m n s s p e c i a l l y de signed for use in these chromatographic systems 2 MIXING CHAMBER—of less than 1/10% of bed volume minimizes sample dilution to insure optimal zone sharpness for critical separations

Howard B. Palmer is professor of f u e l science in the Department of Materials Science at Pennsylvania State Univer sity. He received a B. S. in chemistry f r o m Carnegie Institute of Technology in 1948 and obtained the Ph.D. in chemistry at the University of Wis consin in 1952, working with Professor J . 0 . Hirschfelder. Dr. Palmer spent a year as research associate and t w o years as instructor in the Department of Chemistry at Brown University, where he began research on shock t u b e chemistry in collaboration w i t h Profes sor D. F. Hornig. Their joint paper on the dissociation of bromine in shock waves has become a classic in the field. At Brown he also pioneered in t h e measurement of the light emitted dur ing the radiative recombination of bro mine atoms in shock waves. He joined the faculty of Pennsylvania State Uni versity in 1955 as assistant professor of fuel technology, served as head of the Department of Fuel Technology f r o m 1959 to 1965, and became a full professor in 1960. At Penn State he and his students have continued studying dissociation and recombina tion processes in shock waves, along with studies of t h e kinetics of gaseous processes in other systems, such as low-pressure diffusion flames and flow reactors. He has published approxi mately 60 technical papers. He is a member of the American Chemical So ciety, the American Physical Society, The Combustion Institute, Sigma Xi, Phi Lambda Upsilon, and the Chemical Society (London), and is a Fellow of the Institute of Fuel (London). Dr. Palmer is married, has three sons, and is an accomplished amateur musician.
