REPORT

Sephadex Laboratory Columns A product of over six years' research know-how brings you these "exclusive" column features: 1 AQUEOUS AND ORGANIC SOLVENT SYSTEM C O L U M N S — o n l y c o l u m n s s p e c i a l l y designed for use in these chromatographic systems 2 MIXING CHAMBER—of less than 1/10% of bed volume minimizes sample dilution to insure optimal zone sharpness for critical separations 3 INERT NYLON OR TEFLON NETTING-on the sample applicator, bottom endpiece or flow adaptor eliminates adsorption of biologic material 4 DESCENDING TO RECYCLING OR UPWARD FLOW—easily converted by replacing both endpieces with new Sephadex Flow Adaptors

STANDARD SEPHADEX LABORATORY COLUMN FOR DESCENDING CHROMATOGRAPHY

RECYCLING UPWARD FLOW CHROMATOGRAPHY WITH NEW FLOW ADAPTORS

5 SAMPLE APPLICATOR—distributes the sample evenly over the bed surface to insure sharp zones for critical separations and protects as well as stabilizes the bed 6 S P E C I A L D E S I G N BED S U P P O R T - e l i m i nates troublesome sintered glass disc

ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY

The effect of cyanide on the sulfide electrode was also studied. Figure 14 shows the results of titrating sulfide in the presence of cyanide. The cyanide concentration can also be deduced from the resulting titration curve. The lower limit of detection of the sulfide electrode lies at an extremely low concentration. Consequently, this electrode permits the development of a series of new methods for determination of sulfide in various media, such as sewage, polluted water, and factory effluents. Thus far, some results of the analytical applications of the electrodes have been summarized. These electrodes can also be employed for physico chemical purposes. The study of Burger and his coworkers (£$) on complex formation with the iodide electrode is very promising, because it allows the direct monitoring of the complex formation instead of an indirect one through p H . The method was tested on triiodide, for which the data given in the literature and found in practice are in good agreement. Further experiments were carried out on the complex B i l + 2 . The iodide electrode was applied also to the study of corrosion. For this purpose, a flexible electrode with a one-mm tip was constructed and the anodic corrosion of Ag was monitored successfully. The necessary work for expanding the applications of anion selective electrodes is just beginning. In addition, the electrodes may be used for continuous control of several processes in industry in the future. The collaboration of many specialists can result in further development of this field.
