The flexibility and value offered by Pye Unicam's PU 4500 gas chromatographs remain unchallenged. Any two ionization detectors from the Pye Unicam range (except two flame photometric detectors) can be accepted simultaneously by the PU 4500 detector oven, enabling the detectors to be used in a combination or differential mode. Although all versions of the instrument are compatible for capillary chromatography, a special capillary model is also available which is optimised for the technique.

Enhanced scanning software has been produced for the PU 8600 Series of Visible and UVA/isible spectrophotometers, making full use of their bi-directional RS232C interface. Currently available for the HP 85, the software includes a peak-picking algorithm and a three wavelength measurement routine for concentration readout on peaks obscured by sloping backgrounds. An automatic system for ion selective measurement can be formed by Philips PW 9422 pH meter with RS 232 interface and a microcomputer with interface such as the Apple II, Commodore Pet or HP 85. Direct and incremental measurement methods covered by the system are standard addition, standard subtraction, sample addition, sample subtraction and Grans Plot.
Developments are now available which will extend further the already formidable capabilities of Pye Unicam's PU 4021 Multichannel UVA/isible detector for liquid chromatography. The diode array based instrument has now been complemented by special software for the PU 4850 video chromatography control centre which will allow new levels of data manipulation and presentation to be achieved.
