Nevertheless, this design h a s a m a j o r d r a w b a c k in t h a t it m a k e s it i m p o s s i b l e t o u t i l i z e c h e m i c a l ion ization. Although this may present d i f f i c u l t i e s in t h e a n a l y s i s of c e r t a i n c o m p o u n d s t h a t do not render molec ular ions with electron i m p a c t ioniza tion, the simplicity, compactness, and low c o s t of t h e s y s t e m m a k e it v e r y u s e f u l for s e l e c t e d a p p l i c a t i o n s .
