In the pure state, it is a white, hygroscopic, crystalline solid, with an odor typical of amines. Jefferson is the largest producer of piperazine and a number of forms are marketed including the anhydrous and hydrated products, as well as the salts of organic and inorganic acids. Although piperazine is unquestionably the leading anthelmintic for swine and poultry, it has numerous other practical pharmaceutical and industrial uses.
