•*• Chemistry and Applied Spectroscopy a n d Exposition of Modern L a b o r a t o r y Equipment will be held M a r c h 2 t o 7, 1969, a t t h e Cleveland Convention Center, Cleveland, Ohio. This annual meeting is jointly sponsored by the Spectroscopy Society of P i t t s burgh (Pittsburgh Section, SAS) and t h e Analytical Chemistry Group of t h e Pittsburgh Section of A C S . Registration is open t o all interested persons. T h e regular fee is $6; student registration is $1. A pocket t a b will be provided free of charge for those who wish to attend t h e Exposition only. Housing accommodations should be made through t h e Convention Housing Committee before Feb. 12. Forms and information on housing are available from C. R. Wolfe, c / o Pittsburgh Conference Housing Committee, Cleveland Convention and Visitors Bureau, Inc., 511 Terminal Tower, Cleveland, Ohio 44113. The technical program consists of 40 sessions a n d the presentation of over 295 scientific papers covering a broad range of analytical topics. T h e Exposition will have exhibits from over 230 companies with a n emphasis on new instrumentation a n d laboratory equipment. T h e Spectroscopy Society of Pittsburgh 1969 Award will be presented to Velmer A. Fassel, Iowa State University, Wednesday Afternoon. D r . Fassel will speak on " N e w Development on t h e Analytical Applications of Induction Coupled P l a s m a s . " The Coblentz Society Symposium, titled "Computers and Spectroscopy: P a r t n e r s in Progress," will be held T h u r s d a y afternoon a n d will be highlighted b y t h e presentation of t h e 1969 Coblentz Award b y F . F . Bentley, President of t h e Society, t o Giuseppe Zerbi of the National Research Council of I t a l y , Milan. Technical tours planned for interested Conference 38 A ·

participants include visits t o t h e following plants and laboratories : NASA-Lewis Research Center ; Standard Oil Co. Research L a b o r a t o r y ; General Electric C o . Lighting I n s t i t u t e ; Republic Steel Corp. Basic Oxygen F u r n a c e ; B . F . Goodrich Co. Research Center; Union Carbide Corp. P a r m a Technical Center; Republic Steel Corp. Research Center; a n d t h e Fisher Body Div., G M C Production Facilities. I n addition to t h e technical sessions and tours, there is a social program arranged for all registrants. There are Conference Social Hours planned for Sunday a n d Tuesday nights. M o n d a y evening a buffet dinner and entertainment in t h e German tradition a r e available at $10 per person. Wednesday evening there is a dinner-theatre p a r t y planned; T h u r s d a y evening features a wine tasting p a r t y . A special nontechnical program h a s been arranged for wives of conferees a n d all feminine conferees who are free t o join t h e activities. These activities include tours t o t h e Cleveland Clinic, a T V studio, t h e Severance Center; luncheons, teas, and a fashion show.
