Please come to Hawaii—ft it II ACS/CSJ Chemical Congress

April 1-6.1979

As promised in Part II (June 26, page 26), we are pleased to present detailed information about the arrangements for the ACS/CSJ Chemical Congress, a joint meeting of the American Chemical Society and the Chemical Society of Japan on April 1-6,1979, in Honolulu, Hawaii. The chemical societies of Australia, Canada, and New Zealand will be official participants. On the following seven pages you will find details about air fares (subject to change), hotel accommodations, sightseeing tours, pre- and postcongress trips to the Outer Islands, Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji. This is a "build your own custom-tailored package" opportunity. You can choose the dates, locations, and rates that are best for you and build your own package. At this time there is no way of knowing at which hotels which divisions' technical sessions will be assigned. If price is of major concern to you, it would be best to act promptly and request the more moderately

priced hotel accommodations. The ACS/CSJ Congress shuttle service will facilitate moving back and forth from hotel to hotel. Should you be more concerned about being in the same hotel with a particular division's technical sessions, please delay making your reservations until publication of the preliminary program in C&EN, Nov. 27,1978. Then, act promptly! There are some unique aspects to hotel accommodations in Hawaii. At the very least, two nights' hotel, plus 4% tax, plus the bellman's tips at $2.08 per person MUST BE PAID IN ADVANCE. Also, if you are using an Individual Tour Basing Fare, you must pay in advance for a tour in Honolulu. This information is explained in detail in the material that follows. Have fun planning your trip. Try to make your decisions and return the reservations coupons promptly, with a $25 deposit per person, so that you won't be disappointed. The early birds will have the greatest opportunity to be confirmed according to their first choices.

AIRLINE INFORMATION General Information: Fares shown are in effect September 1978 and are subject to change. Applicable taxes are shown under each fare. Seats have been blocked on direct flights from all major U.S. cities to Hono lulu. Upon receipt of your reserva tion request, ACS Hawaii Travel Headquarters will confirm your reservations according to the best schedule and fare applicable, in cluding formation of group flights from the select cities shown when ever possible. Regular coach and economy fares:

Unrestricted and available year round. Travel on date of choice. There is no minimum or maximum stay; no requirement to travel to gether. Stopovers are allowed. Individual tour basing fares (ITB"):

Available from all major cities east of Denver, including the cities shown on fare chart. They offer complete freedom of travel on dates of choice, allow changes for dates of travel, and do not require travel with a group. Free stopovers permitted on West Coast en route to, or re turning from, Hawaii. Limitations: A minimum stay of six nights is re quired before departing Hawaii; with a maximum stay of 21 days, which allows time for pre- and postcongress tours. Airline tickets, two nights' hotel accommodation, airport/hotel arrival transfer, and at least one local Honolulu tour and/or pre- or postcongress tour must be prepaid. Group 50 fares: Limited space avail able from cities shown. Limitations: The minimum size group is 50 and the group must travel "together" round trip on the same flights on predetermined dates and flights for a six-night minimum stay. Payment must be received by ACS Travel Headquarters at least 35 days before departure, with airline cancellation penalties 30 days or less before de parture. ACS Group 50 space has been blocked from New York, Bos ton, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C., and two choices for set-date travel are offered: (1) Depart Friday, March 30, and re-

turn Saturday, April 7. Or, (2) De part Saturday, March 31, and re turn Saturday, April 7. IMPOR TANT NOTE: These fares are economical only if you live within a 100-mile radius of a Group 50 Fare departure city, or plan to drive to the group departure city. If you re quire a separate air ticket to fly from home to the Group 50 departure city, then ACS Travel Headquarters will quote you, instead, the ITB Fare from your home to Hawaii, which should be less expensive and allows travel on dates of choice. "Supersaver"—"Excursion"—"Chickenfeed," etc., fares are available for a very limited number of seats on any one flight and are usually sold out far in advance. Some airlines do not offer these fares to Hawaii. Limitations: Reservations and pre payment up to 30 days before de parture, after which changes are not permitted; penalties up to 25% of air

fare if canceled. IMPORTANT: As ACS is not permitted to block seats in advance for these special fares, it is suggested that you contact the individual airline directly to make reservations and to pay for tickets in accordance with the strict condi tions and restrictions set by the re spective airline. Travel agency "packages": It is sug gested that you fully investigate the packages advertised in newspapers at attractive and promotional prices. Find out what restrictions are in volved. Is "package" available for dates of choice? Are there any sur charges? Is cost for single room oc cupancy? Is hotel selection guaran teed or are only "no view," less de sirable rooms or hotels offered? ACS Travel Headquarters will confirm reservations at the best applicable air fare to Hawaii based on your individual requirements.
