MÔSSBAUER EFFECT DATA INDEX COVERING THE 1969 LITERATURE Edited by John G. Stevens and Virginia E. Stevens, Argonne National Laboratory and University of North Carolina, Asfiev/Ue To users of its predecessor, Mossbauer Effect Data Index 19581965, the present volume needs no introduction. Its usefulness, completeness, and accuracy have made it the most vital information retrieval tool for countless researchers in the fast-growing field of Môssbauer effect research. Now, in order to bring you up to date with the latest research developments in the field, this volume contains all articles from 1969 which appeared in the literature recognized by Access (the catalog of scientific and primary source publications, containing 30,798 entries). Detailed instructions for using the Index have been included for maximum research efficiency. 292 PAGES J A N U A R Y 1971 $24 FOR I N S T I T U T I O N S $16 FOR P E R S O N A L O R D E R S * S B N 306-65140-8

ADVANCES IN X-RAY ANAIYSIS** VOLUME 14 Edited by Charles S. Barrett, John B. Newkirk, and Clayton O. Ruud Denver Research Institute, The University of Denver, Denver, Colorado Devoted exclusively to current applications of X-ray analysis, this important serial publication has gained over the years a prominent place on the reference shelf of solid state researchers and X-ray diffraction laboratories. This volume covers X-ray diffraction, fluorescence analysis, bonding phenomena, instrumentation, and stress effects. Particular attention is given to the application of nondispersive detectors and to radioisotopic fluorescence excitation. Proceedings of the Nineteenth Annual Conference on Applications of X-ray Analysis, held in Denver, Colorado, August 5-7, 1970 500 PAGES J A N U A R Y 1971 S B N 306-38114-1

Model 700 laser Raman spectrophotometer made by Spectra-Physics is being marketed by Beckman Instruments. The instrument is a compact benchtop instrument with push-button operation. $22,000 to $33,000 depending on choice of laser and other options. Beckman Instruments, Inc. 714-8714848 424

Models 485 and 495 atomic absorption/ flame emission spectrophotometers feature double-beam operation and readout directly in absorbance, percent absorption, percent transmission, and concentration. Wavelength range is 190 to 800 nm or to 852 nm with an optional detector; wavelength accuracy is better than ± 0 . 0 5 and repeatability is better than ± 0 . 2 5 nm throughout; resolution is better than 0.2 nm throughout. Model 495 ($8000) features digital presentation of data, continuously variable scale expansion up to ΙΟΟχ in each of three readout scales, and simultaneous readout of data on a digital voltmeter and a recorder. Model 485 ($5000) provides meter readout with inter changeable scale capability and contin uously variable scale expansion up to 5 0 χ in three readout scales. The 485 outputs to a recorder, but not simul taneously with the meter as does Model 495. A full line of accessories is available. Beckman Instruments, Inc. 714-871-4848 425

Continuous recording pH/specific ion electrode monitor, Model 1404, can be used with all specific ion electrodes and most pH and redox electrodes. Other features of this instrument are inkless recording on pressure-sensitive paper, 330 hr of continuous field operation without recharging batteries. Colorcoded meter scales provide direct read out of pH, mV, and ionic activity or con centration in ppm, moles per liter, etc. This instrument comes in both line-op erated ($695) and battery-operated ($995) models. Orion Research Inc. 617-864-5400 426

A complete line of standard weights conforming to Class S tolerances are available as individual units or sets from 1 gram to 30 kg in metric measure and from 0.002 to 50 lb avoirdupois. The company certifies the actual weight of each standard larger than one kg, based on calibration by an in-house set of NBS-calibrated weights. The weights are made from nonmagnetic 303 stain less steel and are single-piece in de sign. A set including 19 weights costs $3000. Cahn Instruments. 213-6347840 427

you get next to nothing IWT's Laboratory De-Ionizers give you pure water in limited amounts (5 gph). The Universal Cartridge at $10.95 re moves all ionizable solids except free silica and C0 2 . At $12.95, the Research Cartridge removes silica and C 0 2 leaving nothing in the water but 4 PARTS PER BILLION OR LESS IMPURITY (on most city water supplies). When two Research Cartridges are operated in a Duplex fixture, water with a resistivity of 15 meg ohms-cm is regularly available. Duplex operation is economical—you can completely use up the left cartridge while you still get good water from the right cartridge. Replacing the spent car tridge with a fresh one returns full po tential. You know you are getting pure water; an accurate resin color change tells you so.

Bui. DX-470 d e s c r i b e s the expanded IWT cart ridge line. Five different models meet the need for varying levels of pur ity. Six page, 4 - c o l o r brochure describes fix tures, suggests systems, and contains prices. Yours if you ask for It.
