Preface: 1st International Conference on Chemical and Biochemical Engineering (ICCBE15), Paris, France, July 20−22, 2015
I
contributions, the Invited Speakers for their state-of-the-art plenary presentations, the reviewers for their comprehensive and timely reviewing of the papers, and our sponsors who have helped us to keep down the costs of ICCBE15. I would also like to express my gratitude to the Editors of IECR for the efforts in realizing this Special Issue, particularly to Editor-in-Chief Dr. Phillip Savage and their valuable assistant Ms. Nikki Lazenby. Without her invaluable help, this Special Issue would never have been possible.
t is a great honor and pleasure for me to publish this Special Issue of the Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research (IECR), dedicated to the International Conference on Chemical and Biochemical Engineering (ICCBE15), held in Paris, France, from July 20, 2015 to July 22, 2015. This was the first one of a new series of biannual academic conferences exploring how chemical and biochemical engineering advances could be used to improve our lives. The conference was intended to create an international forum for academics, researchers, and scientists from around the world to discuss new results and proposals regarding to the soundest issues related to chemical and biochemical engineering. Around 250 participants from 41 different countries attended the ICCBE15; over 300 presentations were delivered, including 229 posters, 72 selected oral communications, and 2 plenary talks. Most presentations were based on high-quality original works covering a wide range of topics. This conference was organized in two big thematic areas: Chemical Engineering (chemical reactors, catalysis, kinetics, separation technologies, multiphase systems, applied chemistry, clean processes, water and wastewater treatment, advanced oxidation processes) and Biochemical Engineering (biocatalysis, bioreactors, biochemical engineering, industrial biotechnology, bioseparation techniques, biomaterials, environmental bioengineering, cell culture engineering). This special issue includes some of the selected papers presented in the conference. The papers that successfully passed the reviewing process of the IECR journal are now published in this ICCBE15 Special Issue. A relatively short number (11) of selected and interesting papers are presented, focusing mainly on three topics; Reaction Catalysis, Production and Purification Technologies, and Materials. As the Guest Editor of this issue, I would like to express my cordial gratitude to all members of the Organizing Committee, Scientific Committee, Vice-President Prof. Anabela Oliveira, and Technical Secretariat Ms. Monica Martins for their valuable hard work. Also, I would like to thank all the authors for their © 2016 American Chemical Society
