Pesticides in Surface Water: Monitoring, Modeling, Risk Assessment, and Management The increasing use of the newer pesticides such as the pyrethroids, neonicotinoids, and fipronil has resulted in their ubiquitous occurrence in surface waters and led to observations of adverse effects on aquatic organisms. The widespread contamination has stimulated active discussions and research on monitoring, aquatic toxicology, risk assessment, modeling, mitigation, and regulatory efforts to minimize contamination and protect environmental integrity. In this book, we cover comprehensively the latest knowledge, information and technology to measure, assess, model and manage pesticide contamination in surface water. This symposium series book was developed from a large ACS symposium. It includes updated contributions from symposium participants and invited chapters from researchers with expertise in their respective areas of pesticides and surface water. These chapters describe various aspects of the latest research and development related to pesticides in surface water, including fate and transport, analytical methods, environmental monitoring, aquatic toxicology, modeling on environmental fate and transport, risk assessment, data management, runoff mitigation, best management practices, treatment technology, and regulatory strategies to protect surface waters from pesticide contamination. The most recent book on pesticides in surface water is the ACS Symposium Series 1075 “Pesticide Mitigation Strategies for Surface Water Quality” (Goh et al.) published in 2011. Hence, this current book provides a comprehensive and timely coverage of pesticides in surface water. Kean S.
