EMPLOYMENT AIDS The following employment aid will be available to members at the Los Angeles national meeting : EMPLOYMENT CLEARING HOUSE

The Employment Clearing House will be located in the Rex Room of the Biltmore Hotel and will be open from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Monday through Thursday, March 29-April 1. Registration of applicants only will begin on Sunday, March 28 from 3:00 to 7:00 P.M. Members and student affiliates may submit forms in advance, which will reduce the time required to register. However, no records are placed on file for review until after the candidate has reported in Los Angeles and completed all registration requirements. Request forms from ACS Employment Aids Office, 1155—16th Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20036, and mention the Los Angeles meeting. Deadline for receipt of completed forms at the National Office is March 15. Employers who wish to prepare Position Available forms in advance may obtain standard forms from the ACS Employment Aids Office. A separate form should be completed for each job description, which may be returned to the National Office prior to the meeting or delivered to the NECH at the meeting. Both candidates for employment and employers' representatives must be registered and in attendance at the meeting to use the NECH on spot facilities. However, the national meeting registration fee may be waived for an unemployed full-dues-paying member who uses the National Employment Clearing House. Further details on employment aids will appear in the Feb. 15 issue of C&EN.

To register or obtain information, please write to Education Department, American Chemical Society, 1155-16th St, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20036. During the two-week period prior to a course, registration should be made by telephone: area code 202, 737-3337, ext 258.

Emulsions and Dispersions March 26-28—Dr. Sydney Ross and Dr. Frederick M. Fowkes; fee $95; required text, S. Ross, éd., "Chemistry and Physics of Interfaces," American Chemical Society Publications, 1965, $7.50

This course is intended for industrial chemists and chemical engineers who meet problems in the technology of emulsions and dispersions. The purpose of the course is to introduce the theory and principles of colloid and surface chemistry t h a t pertain to the behavior of such systems. The main divisions of the course are based on two factors t h a t control the stability of a dispersion—entropie repulsion and electrostatic repulsion. The course includes demonstrations of equipment for preparing colloidal dispersions or instruments for measuring properties related to their stability. A B.S. in chemistry or chemical engineering is sufficient background.

Modern Organic Synthesis March 27-28—Dr. Barry M. Trost and Dr. Edwin Vedejs; fee $75.

This course is intended for individuals who are concerned with putting organic molecules together. It covers both the methods and tools of organic synthesis, with heavy emphasis on modern aspects of synthesis. Individual syntheses are selected which afford maximum exposure to a variety of concepts and tools. Research supervisors, bench chemists, and teachers will all benefit from the course.

MUSEUM OF THE SOLAR SYSTEM, the ACS film on lunar science, is now available! The 16mm color film reports how basic facts about the lunar rocks and soil—ages, elements, minerals, etc.—were gathered. In tended for a secondary school to adult audience, this documentary focuses on seven investigators:

Museum Of The Solar System Λ

James R. A r n o l d , University of California at San Diego Robert L. Fleischer, GE Research and Development Center Paul Gast, National Aeronautics and Space Administration George H. Morrison, Cornell University Harold C. Urey, University of California at San Diego G. J. Wasserburg, California Institute of Technology John A. W o o d , Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory

Filmed under the supervision of the ACS by Stuart Finley, Inc., MUSEUM OF THE SOLAR SYSTEM presents a unique look at the methods and sophistication of modern chemistry and the men w h o practice it. 16mm color/23 minutes Costs: Print $250/Rental $25 Pre-purchase, free preview available Study guide supplied 50 C&EN JAN. 4, 1971

of University Professors, or to such la bor unions as the members wish to join. It seems to me that any bona fide chemist should wish to support ACS as the foundation of his science. If he also feels the need of a protective organization he should be willing to support another association for that purpose. B. S. Garvey, Jr. Wayne, Pa.

At the chemical expo SIRS: Add this letter to those you've been receiving about the foolishness of registering for the National Chem ical Exposition at the Chicago ACS meeting. I left blank the space on the regis tration form which designated the prod uct my "company" sold. Protests that this institution sold nothing were of no avail. "You have to have a product," said the brain behind the counter, "otherwise you can't be registered." So I checked all products in the righthand column. A colleague from another university was more direct. He checked the space for fertilizer. Henry J. Shine Horn Professor of Chemistry and Chair man, Department of Chemistry, Texas Tech University, Lubbock
