ACS National Meeting

Presidential Events: Chicago Catherine T. (“Katie”) Hunt, ACS President 2007, will cosponsor a full week of presidential events and sessions. In her desire to work together to address substantive societal issues, she has selected Sustainability of Energy, Food, and Water as the presidential theme for this meeting and Material Innovations: From Nanotech to Biotech and Beyond for the Boston meeting in August. The goal is to successfully execute meaningful thematic programming at national meetings that will not only nucleate ideas, foster community, and accelerate innovation, but be essential to effectively communicate chemistry to a broader audience. Open discussions as a scientific community will better enable us to speak with one voice to our membership, the media, and the general public. Sustainability of Energy, Food, and Water Three presidential sessions will be featured: Sunday, March 25: Sustainability: A World View; Monday, March 26: Technology Challenges and Opportunities for a Sustainable Future and Educating for Sustainability. These themes are well-aligned with the ACS strategic plan and the new thematic programming initiative of ACS divisions and secretariats for national meetings. Full descriptions are in the technical program under Sustainability (SUST) or online at chemistry.org/meetings/chicago2007 (accessed Jan 2007). • Sustainability: A World View, Sunday, March 25, 1– 4 p.m., McCormick Place • Presidential Reception, Sunday, March 25, 4:30– 6 p.m., McCormick Place
