This is the fourth edition of a well-accepted work. The current version contains 40 chapters, with additional new chapters on chemical processing and the work of the chemical engineer, water conditioning, energy, and the food processing industries. On the dust jacket it is stated that the new edition has more than 200 new tables, charts, graphs, and flow sheets, and that 90% of the material is new or substantially revised. Moat of the latest references are 1974 citations, with a few more recent ones. The hook is written nrimarilv for chemical eneineers. emphasizing chemical convrrsions and the broad principlrs of thr systetns rhararfr~isrir of o specific chrmiral process indusrrs. Wide use is made of flow charts. This hook is essentially descriptive and somewhat encyclopedic in design. The authors have included historical and economic aspects of the various industries discussed. Additional factual information and personal perspectives of the authors make interesting reading, and the work should he useful to the non-engineer as well. Both organic and inorganic processes are treated.
