Colonial Alloys Co. has developed a "powerful" metal degreasing solvent designated as Tricyclodiene, claimed to evidence unusual solvent power by its speed and thoroughness in removing oils and greases as well as solid soils containing oils and greases such as drawing, stamping, machining, cutting, and huffing compounds, from all types of metal surfaces. Tricyclodiene solvent is a fluid with an odor that is neither unpleasant nor irritating. It is used at room temperature as a dip, spray, or wipe and is usually followed by a rinse in clean solvent. T h e solvent has a high flash point and is rated as a safety solvent. It need not and should not be heated. According to the technical processes division of the company, it can he reclaimed after it is spent by means of distillation and additions, or by filtration. It is not chlorinated and is not rated as a toxic solvent. The company points out that Tricyclodiene is not intended as a substitute for vapor degreasing, although many degreasing jobs lend themselves t o its use entirely. More specifically, it is an excellent cleaner, prior to a vapor degreasing operation. In this manner, a user requires a smaller supply of his vapor degreasing solvent, since Tricyclodiene takes all or most of the soil from the work. Tricyclodiene complies with U. S. Armv-Navy Specifications PS-661a; JANC-490; 98-20007; MIL S-5002. CS 1
Multipurpose Adhesive For Case Liners The adhesive, EC-1025, which meets all requirements of Spec. Jan-P-140, types I and II, grades A and B, has been announced by Minnesota Mining and Mfg. Co. It is pointed out that this single adhesive, which can be used for a variety of packaging jobs under the specification, simplifies purchasing, inventory control, and application procedures. The adhesive is water-dispersed, eliminating fire hazards and solvent odors, the firm said. It cures to a water-resistant film, and does not support mold or fungi growth. Application is by brush, spray gun, or roll coater. CS 2

It is clairhed the new process has diversified application in industry for military purposes, on the farm and in the home, and may b e effectively used on any structure from iron or steel bridges or battleships d o w n to a rusted auto fender.

The manufacturers point out that the Zinkrich actually combines with the steel or iron to produce electrical continuity; that it leaves a coating of 96 parts by weight of chemically pure zinc; and in cases where it is applied directly onto adhering rust, it induces the rusted area to create its own protective, nonflaking coating, arresting further rust and preventing "rust creep." TaBlate Driers Developed by Witco Chemical Co. under the trade name Witalls, tallate driers should not be considered solely as substitutes for naphthenates, but as high quality driers in their o w n right. According to the company, Witalls c o m bine excellent drying power and light color in uniform, controlled products. T h e driers are said to have reliable metal content, stability to storage, freedom from objectionable odor, and wide range of compatibility with paint vehicles, which properties assure their acceptance as regular driers comparable to naphthenates and octoates. Though slightly more viscous than naphthenates, in almost all formulations they can be substituted pound for pound. CS 4
Fertilizer Pellets Limited production of homogeneous granulated complete fertilizers by an improved process will shortly be started by Davison Chemical Corp. at its Perry, Iowa, plant. T h e announcement b y the mixed fertilizer division made it clear that the n e w process was still on a test and development basis; that its extension to other plants was well in the future; and that prospective production, limited as to grades or formulas as well as quantities, was completely sold out for the season. In homogeneous granulated complete fertilizers, fertilizing materials are proportioned and combined in small pellets or granules. In this form the fertilizer feeds freely and evenly from the farmers' machinery, and can b e applied without loss from blowing, even by the n e w method of aircraft distribution. As it resists caking in storage, it can b e produced and stored in the season of "minimum demand for fertilizer. In the soil the granulated product is less subject to "fixation" of the phosphate, or chemical

change to a relatively unavailable form, than is the pulverized product. Although granulated superphosphate has commanded a large market here, granulated complete fertilizer has not been available on a comparable scale, the company points out. Its adoption has been more rapid abroad. CS 5

T h e material gives the n e e d e d protection to many types of food handling equipment, including utensils, stoves, refrigerators, immersion heaters, and baking ovens. CS 7 Enamel f o r Interior Home Painting. T h e United Lacquer Manufacturing Corp. has recently developed a n enamel, called MultaKolor. It is used for interior home painting and is said to save time and labor b y eliminating several steps normally required for painting a house with standard finishes. According to the manufacturers, the usual sanding a n d undercoating are no longer necessary. The enamel's broken-surface effect also disguises t h e location of cement joints bet w e e n gypsum boards. CS 8 Folvron-B Capsules. Lederle announces Folvron-B capsules, w h i c h contain 1.7 mg. of folvite folic acid, 0 . 1 9 4 Gm. ( 3 grains) of ferrous sulfate exsiccated, and 5.0 microgram of vitamin Bi2i,-Bi2 as present in concentrated extractives from streptomyces fermentation. T h e product is indicated for prevention a n d treatment of iron-deficient megaloblastic anemias, such as those occurring in sprue, pregnancy, pellagra, infancy, and gastrointestinal anemia; as well as for other iron-deficient anemias such as the nutritional postinfectious and primary microcytic types. In iron-deficient pernicious anemia they may b e used in conjunction with parenteral liver extract or Normocytin vitamin BiabBi2. CS 9 Therapeutic Multivitamin Capsule.
