-HOLE cotton has been pulped many times on a

laboratory scale. Dockery (4), Sanders (14), and others have used the sulfite and the sulfate processes as well as the sodium hydroxide process. Macormac (9) found the nitric acid process to compare favorably with the sodium hydroxide process for whole cotton, and Egan (8) showed that the components of whole cotton yield results by the sodium hydroxide process comparable to those obtained from commercial woods.
