NEW PRODUCTS Gas T h e r m a t r o n The concentration of one gas in a multicomponent mixture can be measured selectively and continuously with the newly developed Gas Thermatron, offered by \ l i n e Safety Appliances Co. The instrument enables accurate gas analysis without chemical or physical changes of the gas mixture, according to the company. I t does this by improved use of the thermal conductivity principle of measurement. Additional convection cells take into account differences in convective losses from hot filaments through gases. There are four cells with hot filaments in the Gas Thermatron—two conduction cells of small diameter and two convection cells of selected large diameter. The instrument draws 100 watts, sample requirements are 100 to 1000 cc. per minute, and no p u m p is required. Speed of response is 60 seconds for 9 0 % of full scale, calibration is linear and stable, and zero drift is negligible.
The Thermatron can be calibrated for any gas over either narrow or wide ranges of concentration. Accuracy is within 2% of full scale throughout the selected range. Typical examples of applications are measurement of carbon dioxide in flue or exhaust gases and measurement of ethylene oxide in mixtures of carbon dioxide and air or in mixtures of hydrogen, carbon dioxide, and air. P-8 Chemalyzer The Chemalyzer, a colorimetric end point comparator, is introduced by Milton Roy Company. I t is an automatic device for sampling a solution, adding a color reagent, and obtaining an indication of solution concentration or strength. Sample liquid enters a reservoir at the top of the Chemalyzer, where an overflow tube maintains constant level. From the reservoir, sample then flows by gravity through an adjustable ori-
