Recycling Melting Point Capillary Vials Over the past several years we've been accumulating a large number of melting point capillary dispensing vials. Thwe supplied by Kimax are made of glass with snap caps a t both ends (for m.p. capillaries open a t both ends) or only a t one end (far m.p. capillaries sealed a t one end). They hold 1W capillar?. tubes. We found that these vials make excellent developing chamberr for small scale paper chromatography. The paper strips can be wide enough for two samples to he chromatographed and the chambers are small enough so that it takes no time a t all to obtain a saturated atmosphere inside. The chromatography of inks, stains, and dyes has been particularly successful. One disadvantage is that the vials are too narrow t o be used with tlc microscope slides.
