New Micro Bellows* Metering Pumps

U. S. Government Publications Guide to the Analysis of Pesticide Residues. Vols. I & II. H. P. Burchfield and Donald E. Johnson. U. S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare. U. S. Government Printing Office, Washington, D. C. 20402. ' 1065. $12.75 per set. This guide is recommended for use in pesticide research and is not intended for regulatory or enforcement purposes. Procedures for the detection of chemi cal pesticides and their metabolic by products in human and animal tissues, water, food, soil, and plants are given. The following publications can be ob tained from the Clearinghouse for Fed eral Scientific and Technical Informa tion, U. S. Department of Commerce, Springfield, Va. 22151. An Improved Flame Spectrophotom eter for Biologic Calcium Analysis.

5Vz" x 1 1 " χ 12 Micro Bellows Pumps, proven for 17 years in major research labs, are ideal for exact metering of contami nant-free materials into your process. The new SM Model features a vari able speed constant torque gear head motor and new micrometer ad justment on the bellows stroke length allowing for a wide range of pumping variations and accurate re setting of flow. All wetted parts are type 316 stain less—no Ο rings—gaskets or pack ing glands to leak or cause contami nation. 3

ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY

14 pages. Aerospace Medical Divi sion, Brooks AFB, Texas. 1966. Order AD-6287S9. $1. The calcium content of biological fluids can be determined with an accu racy of plus or minus 1% by the modifi cation of a commercial flame spectro photometer. Acetylene was substituted for oxygen as the spray gas; a more sensitive adjustment of the wavelength selector, and a change in the photomultiplier circuit to provide increased cur rent amplification with a wider range of control were the effective changes. The Effect of Chemical Combination on the Soft X-ray Κ Emission Bands of Nitrogen and Carbon.

D. W. Fischer and W. L. Baun. 20 pages. Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio. 1965. Order AD-629 10S. $1. (Microfiche 50 cents.) Results obtained from the use of elec tron excitation, a lead stéarate crystal, and a flow proportional counter, in the study of nitrides and carbon bands from graphite, diamond, lampblack, and some metallic carbides have shown that chemical combination has a marked effect on the shape of the X-ray Κ emis sion bands of nitrogen and carbon. Nonlinear Phase Correction of Interferograms Obtained in Fourier Spectroscopy. 92 pages. Utah State University's Electro-Dynamics Laboratories, Logan, Utah, for the Air Force. July 1965. Order AD624 086. $3. Theory and techniques of Fourier Spectroscopy are presented in this pub lication.

Research in Activation Analysis.

H.

Arino et al. 120 pages. Union Car bide for the AEC. 1964. Order NYO-10175. $4. {microfiche $1.) A rapid activation analysis technique for the simultaneous determination of microgram amounts of tantalum and niobium is described. The results of studies show that as many as twelve different neutron-induced radioactive species can be separated from a single neutron-activated sample in a few hours.

Investigation of a New Type Narrow Band X-ray Detector for the Iden tification of Chemical Elements using Radioisotope X-ray Sources.

J. M. Brinkerhoff and R. Forsyth. 48 pages. Tracerlab, Inc., Waltham, Mass., for the AEC. 1965. Order NYO-3160-1. $3. (microfiche 75 cents.) A new narrow band X-ray detection system has been developed for the iden tification and measurement of chemical elements by means of radioisotope in duced X-ray fluorescence. This report discusses an alpha and a beta system and a comparison of narrow band fluo rescence and Rayleigh scattering meth ods.

Experimental Study of Zone Refining of the Binary System Triphenyl Antimony-Naphthalene. M. S.

Brooks and W. R. Hancock. 77 pages. Solid State Sciences Labora tories, Bedford, Mass. 1966. Order AD-630 609. $3. The isotope Antimony-124, formed the basis of a method for the nonde structive analysis of this system. Ap parent k's were calculated with the aid of computers and the data was com pared to that obtained from various mathematical models.

Abstracts of Scientific Papers Pre sented at the XXth International Congress of Pure and Applied Chemistry. 204 pages. Division of Isotopes Development, AEC, Wash ington, D. C. 1965. Order CONF650723. $2. (microfiche $1.25.) Abstracts of papers discussing the physical chemistry of surface phe nomena and disperse systems, radiation, inorganic, analytical, cosmic chemistry, and chemical technology are presented in this volume.
