that the tip of the pipet touches paper six, 12, or 18 times per minute. The rack holds up to seven pipets, tips of which must be bent at right angles to allow precise application. Distance between successive points of applica tion is one inch, and warm air flows from blower continuously to dry sam ple between applications. Paper, of maximum width of nine inches, is held in place by a clear plastic cover with seven openings for sample application. Provision is made for connection of a vacuum line for in creased drying efficiency. P-8

Chromatography Applicator The chromatography applicator introduced by Scientific Products applies samples automatically, and is said to be valuable where relatively large samples must be controlled to a small point of application. Rocker arm control can be set so

The Model 2470 apparatus holds a g l a s s or quartz tube inside of which i s placed the charge of material to be purified. A moving table holds either induction heating coils or electric r e s i s t a n c e heating rings which surround the tube. A synchronous nioror and variable speed reducer drive the table at a constant rate variable from 0.36 to 9 inches per hour. Adjustable stops limit the table travel and actuate a rapid return mechanism. Multiple-pass zone melting is thus completely automatic.

A general purpose gas chromatograph designed for analysis of trace impuri ties as well as major components is announced by F & M Scientific Glass ware Co. The instrument analyzes gases, liquids, and solids having boiling points up to 350° C , according to the company. Temperature control is obtained by use of vapor-liquid equilibrium in an insulated, aluminum-shielded glass va por jacket. A preheater on the injec tion port assists in rapid volatilization of the sample, while a post heater is used to prevent condensation of high boiling materials at the exit port. Liquid samples are injected into the carrier gas stream by means of a hypodermic syringe.

Other features claimed for the unit: stainless steel construction, thermistor detector, p.p.m. sensitivity, vapor bath temperature control. P-9 Mechanically Convected Oven A mechanically convected oven for accelerated aging tests according to ASTM specifications D-573 and D-6 has been developed by Electric Hotpack Co. The unit is designed with a rotating sample holder of aluminum so positioned that samples can be rotated at about one revolution per minute. Following are advantages claimed for the unit by the company. Tempera ture range is from 35° to 180° C , plus or minus 0.5° C. Heaters of about 2400 watts operate on 110 to 220 volts
