HYDRAMAL® Pyridine-free Karl Fischer reagents HYDRAMAL® is the trade name of a new generation of Karl Fischer reagents developed by Eugen Scholz in the last four years. These pyridine-free reagents are far superior to their "classic" counterparts. HYDRAMAL® offers a few important advantages: rapid titrations, stable end points, accurate results, and long shelf-life. The HYDRAMAL® product range has found worldwide acceptance. At the "Pittsburgh Conference 1 9 8 4 " the leading manufacturers of Karl Fischer titrators, like Metrohm, Mettler, Fisher Scientific or Hiranuma, presented their equipment using HYDRAMAL® reagents. ACS and U5P accept HYDRAMAL® as a KF reagent. Patents are pending in many countries, a few have been granted. HYDRAMAL® Composite is the one-component reagent with a shelf-life of more than two years. It is used like the "normal" KF reagents. The advantages are evident. The diagram shows that the titration of 4 0 mg water with HYDRAMAL® Composite takes only 4 minutes (curve B), whilst the old pyridine-containing reagent requires about 10 minutes (curve C). HYDRAMAL® Solvent and HYDRAMAL® Titrant are the two-component system. The most important feature is its superior accuracy. The titration of 4 0 mg water takes less than two minutes (see curve A). This reagent is absolutely stable and remains unchanged even during long storage periods.

HYDRAMAL® Composite 5K, a special type, enables titration of water in both ketones and aldehydes at room temperatures. It can even be used for the highly reactive acetaldehyde. HYDRAMAL® Coulomat is the new reagent for the coulometric Karl Fischer titration. It offers the same advantages and can be applied to practically all coulometric titrators. The use of HYDRAMAL® reagents is in no way problematical. Practically all KF titrators are suitable, and the existing titration instructions can be used unchanged. The HYDRAMAL® brochure contains detailed recommendations for application. Please ask for free copies and samples. HYDRAMAL® reagents can be purchased all over the world. Kindly ask your reagent supplier for HYDRAMAL®, or contact
