The 340's baseline corrector can compensate spectra up to 2A; even draw a difference spectrum without using the reference beam.

monochromator stops to allow the ratio of transmittance to be measured at successive wavelengths. The result is a series of discrete digital values of transmittance associated with specific wavelengths irrespective of scanning speed or reference absorption.

Each member of the 57 series can be equipped with a digital background corrector which flattens the instrument's baseline to ± 0 . 0 0 1 A. The flat background aids interpretation of difference spectra and eliminates the need to record a baseline for every quantitative measurement. Difficult S a m p l e s . Turbid and sold samples produce photometric errors due to energy loss by scattering. The 57 series has a scattered transmission accessory where such difficult samples can be placed close to a large, endon-window, photomultiplier. Much of the scattered energy is recollected by the detector and values closer

to the time sample absorbance are recorded. The Model 3 4 0 can be equipped with a selection of integrating spheres covering its wide UV-VIS-NIR range to allow examination of solid samples by reflection.
