Rohm & Haas offer wide selection of comonomers The 18 acrylic monomers available from Rohm & Haas offer you an unparalleled selection of comono mers for adjusting polymer prop erties. Take hardness, for example. By polymerizing proper monomer combinations, you can get polymers ranging from tacky elastomers to hard plastics. Here are other 10

properties you can control . . . in developing a coating resin, you can vary the monomer composition to arrive at optimum gloss, adhesion, impact resistance, flexibility, com patibility with other resins, outdoor durability, and resistance to salt spray, solvents, and detergents. The monomers having functional

groups are particularly valuable for polymer modification. Even when used in small percentages, they can c o n t r i b u t e : sites for secondary crosslinking, adhesion to selected substrates, solubility in acids or alkali, freeze-thaw and mechanical stability in polymer emulsions, and dye receptivity.

M O N O M E R S for broad range of polymer properties The features mentioned here apply to all-acrylic copolymers as well as to systems in which acrylic monomers are copolymerized with monomers such as styrene, vinyl chloride, vinyl acetate, acrylonitrile, butadiene, vinylidene chloride, maleic and fumaric polyesters, drying-oil-modified alkyds, and olefins.

Applications of all-acrylic or acrylicmodified polymers include: polymer emulsions for latex paints, textile finishes, leather coatings, paper coatings and saturants; auto and aircraft lacquers; elastomers; synthetic fibers; printing inks; floor polishes; surfactants; dispersants; molding powders; adhesives.

Write to Dept,SP-19 for monomer samples and technical literature.
