The annual chemisfry contestr conducfed by the Sacramenfo Valhy Section of the American Chemical Society were initiated and have been confinued chiefly through the intered and activity of X r . J. H. Norton, chemistry imtructor at the Sacfo Junior College. The contests fake fhe form of competitive writfen esaminafionson the subject matter of elemenfary chpmhtry. All high schools i n the Sacramnto Valhy, as well as fhe Reno and Sparks high schools of Nevada, are eligible to enter teams. Roseville High School teams have won fhe contest in 1930, 1931, 1932, 1934. I n addition, members of Rosevrllc teams have won the individual trophy cup in I929 and 1930. No special coaching i s given Rosevih t e r n in preparation for the contesfs. The same team won the Pac~xcCoast American Chemical Sociefy confesfi n June, 1934.
