NEW PRODUCTS each test tube, with all tubes attached. A wide temperature differential is maintained by a constant temperature bath and by a cooling tube in the vacuum manifold, the latter having inlet and outlet for cold water. Vacuum is furnished by any efficient water aspirator and is controlled for each test tube by a separate stopcock. A lateral swirling motion of each test tube creates a deep vortex, says the company, and rapidly exposes the entire solution to vacuum and to higher temperatures without "bumping." All the instrument's variables are subject to built-in controls. P-12
Electron Microprobe Analyzer An electron microprobe analyzer which excites x-radiation from elements in a volume of a few cubic microns at the surface of a sample is announced by Philips Electronic Instruments. The electron optics system is contained in a vertical column and includes a biased gun, two magnetic lenses, and alignment devices. Effective focus is of the order of two microns diameter when measured in zirconium at 25 kv. The instrument is designed to analyze all elements from magnesium up in the atomic table. The accelerating voltage
