Sabatier discovered catalytic hydrogénation...

Akzo Chemie Research creates new hydrotreating catalysts

aul Sabatier, French chemist and Nobel Prize recipient in 1912, made a key discovery in catalytic chemistry. He discovered that hydrogen combines w i t h unsaturated hydrocarbons in the presence of finely divided nickel. This fundamental discovery has formed the basis for many important industrial processes including the production of gasoline.

P

Today Akzo Chemie research has created entirely new families of catalysts using not only nickel, but also cobalt, m o l y b d e n u m , platinum and a number of rare earths. These innovative new catalysts are produced by Akzo Chemie's Ketjen Catalysts group. Akzo Chemie is an international specialty chemical company offering more

than 4 0 0 0 chemical products to industry. These are produced in more than 3 0 plants w o r l d w i d e located in Europe, Asia, North and South America. The company's extensive product line includes catalysts, inorganic and organic chemicals, surfactants and industrial specialties. Sabatier w o u l d be surprised by the pace of catalyst innovation today. Akzo Chemie has recently introduced several new catalyst concepts to help refineries increase their profits without added capital expenditures.
