In a letter published in Science, G. N. Flerov of Dubna, U.S.S.R. questions the claims of Albert Ghiorso's group at the University of California, Berkeley, to the discovery of element 105. October 3,1811 A long article on spontaneous combustion by A. S. (Adam Seyhert?), the second to he submitted by the Columhian Chemical Society, appears in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania newspaper, Aurora. October 5, 1861 The Chemical Society of Union College, a precursor of the American Chemical Society, is founded. Octoher 11,1798 "Experiments relating to the Cakes of Metals; communicated in a fifth Letter from Dr. Priestley toDr. Mitchill. Octoher 11,1798" appears in the Medical Repository, 2,263 (1799).
