It is used extensively as a de-waxing agent for refining lube oils and as a solvent for synthetic rubber cements and other adhesives. MEK's high solvent power makes it an effective ingredient in paint and varnish removers, and in industrial cleaning compounds. As a chemical intermediate, MEK is a source of
