tify polymers and estimate per cent compasition of individual components in copolymers and polymer mixtures. The hook gives a hrief introduction to nmr theory and polymer chemistry and then presents the polymer spectra along with a description of the spectrum's significant features and . a drawing of the polymer structure. The spectra are grouped under the following classifications: hydrocarbon polymers, vinyl polymers, polyethers, polyesters, polyamides, polyurethanes, epoxy resins, formaldehyde resins, silicone polymers, cellulose derivatives, miscellaneous polymers, and monomers and reference compounds. It also includes a Polymer Finder Chart and a Commercial Name Index which should he useful t o the industrial spectroscopist. DAB

The "Specialist Periodical Reports" series was inaugurated in 1967 by the Chemical Society of Britain to provide review of the progress in major areas of chemical research. This volume is the first of the biennial publications in the area of theoretical chemistry. The series is projected to cover: The quantum theory of valence, with application to the calculation of the structure and properties of molecules and to the calculation of potential energy surfaces for chemical reactions; theoretical aspects of spectroscopy; the dynamics of chemical reactions; intermolecular forces; and developments in fundamental theory and camputational methods. This first volume deals with four aspects of the application of quantum mechanics to chemistry and spectroscopy: "The Calculation of Spectroscopic Constants" by W. G. Richards, J. Raferty, and R. K. Hinkley; "Direct Minimization Methods in Quantum Chemistry" by D. Garton and B. T. Sutcliffe; "Valence Bond Theory" by J: Gerratt; and "Harmonic and Anharmonic Force Field Calculations" by I. M. Mills. The volume also contains an author index of the literature citations. DAB
