Spectrophotometric Study of Copper(I1) Chloride Complexes in Propylene Carbonate and in Dimethyl Sulfoxide MAX ELLEB, JEAN MEULLEMEESTRE, MARIE-JOSB SCHWING-WEILL, and FRANCOIS VIERLING* Received June 29, 1981

Copper(I1) chloro complexes were characterized in dimethyl sulfoxide (Me2SO) and in propylene carbonate (PC) media. The spectrophotometric investigation was performed in the UV-visible and near-infrared regions with 1 M Lit(C104-, C1-)-Me2S0 and 0.1 M Et4N+(CI04-,CI-)-PC constant ionic strength copper(I1) chloride solutions. The stability constants and individual electronic spectra were calculated from a large set of absorbance values covering the whole UV-visible and near-IR wavelength ranges. The overall formation constants of three copper(I1) chloro complexes Cu(Me2S0)3C1+, Cu(Me2SO)C1
