Staff Changes Hurt P. (Jarnett. who has been Technical Manager of the A. C. S. News Service and Managing Editor of the News Edition, has launched a news syndicate under his own name in Washington. This work will consist of the preparation of articles for the newspapers and magazines on technical and scientific subjects. I t is his hope that, in this way, he will be continuing in some measure the work of showing what scientific research is doing toward the progress of America and the world. Mr. Garnett's headquarters for the time being will be S10 Eighteenth St., N. W., Washington, D. C. Hereafter the publicity work of the Society will be in charge of James T. Grady, 310 East Hall, Columbia University, New York City. Mr. Grady has been associated with various newspapers in an editorial capacity and was former^ a mem ber of the faculty of the School of Journalism of Columbia University. He is at present Director of the Department of Public Information, Columbia University, and directs the publicity of a number of organizations, among them the Federated American Engineering Societies and the Engineer ing Foundation. Mr. Grady therefore brings a wealth of ex perience and a wide contact with newspapers and newspaper men to his new connection and the general acceptance on the part of the press of the few bulletins lie has thus far sent out for us indicates that the A. C. S. News Service is enter ing upon an era of still greater public usefulness under his able direction. The managing editorship of the News Edition has been entrusted to Dr. Robert P. Fischelis, Dean and Professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the New Jersey College of Pharmacy, Newark, N. J. Dr. Fischelis has been a member of the staff of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry for several years and has had previous trade journal experience. While a member of the Philadelphia Section he was managing editor of The Catalyst, its monthly publication. Material for the News Edition may be sent either to the Washington office .of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry or directly to the managing editor at 509 High St., Newark, N. J. We bespeak for both Mr. Grady and Dr. Fischelis the hearty cooperation of our members aiid.wish Mr. Garnet t a full measure of success in his new enterprise.

Will You Help? Reports from different sections of the country indicate t h a t the News Edition is filling a need among our members and quite a few suggestions for making it more valuable to the membership at large have been receh'ed. As the managing editorship goes into new hands with this issue it may be in order to outline briefly the aims and policies which have been set up as a goal for the News Edition and to ask for constructive criticism and suggestions from our members, calculated to still further improve the value of this publication. I t will be the aim of the editors to have the News Edition carry live chemical news from the various chemical centers in this country and abroad. Under the heading of chemical news we include not only events pertaining to our science and the industry but also news of the happenings among chemists and principally members of the American Chemical Society. It shall be our aim to report prompth' the activities in the fields covered by the Sections and Divisions of the American Chemical Society, to give proper publicity to the semi annual meetings of the Society, regional meetings and Sec tional meetings and to keep our members in touch with the activities of other scientific organizations. Naturally this program can be carried out onty with the cooperation of our members. Every Section of the Society has been requested to appoint a correspondent and prac tically all have done so. The cooperation already received through some of these correspondents has been splendid and is heartily appreciated but we must have 100% cooperation if we are to have a 100% publication. The reward for this cooperation lies not only in the consciousness of a service well performed but also in the satisfaction of being an active contributor to the welfare of the American Chemical Society and through it to the profession. To this end every member of the Society should be a correspondent. Will You Help?
