Alumina Abrasives Alumina abrasives used to produce low micro inch finishes as well as ultra high polishes critical to surface prepa ration work are available from Geosciences Instruments Corp. Three grades are available: Corunda C, 1.0 μ; Corunda A, 0.5 μ; and Corunda B, 0.1 μ. Aqueous suspensions are also available. 501 NF Potassium Thiocyanate N.F. grade potassium thiocyanate is available from Halby Chemical Co. Other thiocyanates available are: am monium, sodium, cuprous, calcium, and potassium (technical). 502 Chelatometric Indicator Fast Sulphon Black F, a new chelato metric indicator for copper, is now available from LaMont Laboratories in 5-, 10-, and 25-gram lots. This indi cator supplements the LaMont line of over seventy-five chemicals and indica tors for EDTA titrations. 503
IRASER. Upon excitation with ultra violet light, different members of the IRASER family readmit I R light at different wavelengths. Kits with 8 dif ferent IRASER materials are presently available. 505 Laser Materials Strontium calcium fluoride doped with samarium and strontium barium fluoride doped will neodymium are among the new laser materials supplied by Semi-Elements, Inc. These are in single crystal form and are designed to expand the wavelength spectrum of materials now available for laser use. 506 lodine-125 Labeled Agents Newly available, longer-lived iodine125 isotope and radioiodinated com pounds are available from Volk Radio chemical Co. I 1 2 5 has less intense ionizing radiation characteristics than I 131 . 507
Organic Research Chemicals The following organic research chem icals are available through Ames Lab oratories, Inc. Acetone oxime, cyclotrimethylenetriamine, 2,4-dimethylbenzylamine, 2,5-dimethvlbenzvlamine. N' N' - dimethyl - 1, 2 - propanediamine, meta-, ortho-, and para-fluorobenzylamine, 1-naphthalene methylamine, M-octylamine, Λ7-(«-propyl ) ethylener r r, diamine, A ,A ,xV',A -tetraethyl methylenediamine, and trimcthyl cyclotrimethylenetriamine. 508 Standard Hydrocarbon Sample A new Standard Sample has been added to the 290already available from the American Petroleum Institute (API). The new sample is l,trans-4-dimethyl - trans - 2 - isobutylcyclohexane, C]2H24- I t is sample number 1106-5S. Its impurities, based on gas-liquid chromatographic measurements, are 0.01 ± 0.01 mole percent, 509
Single Beryllium Crystals Beryllium single crystals, made by the floating zone melting technique, and ultra high purity beryllium metal, pro duced by vacuum distillation, are avail able from Nuclear Metals, Inc. These crystals are useful for diffracting neu trons from nuclear reactors. The re sultant monochromatic neutron beam can be used for research on the struc ture of matter in much the same way as x-rays and the electrons have been used. Beryllium single crystals, as the least complicated form of the metal, are used to study its basic physical and mechanical properties. Crystals up to IV4 inches o.d. X 4 inches long are being produced. The high purity beryllium is useful for spectrographs standards materials used in the analysis of beryllium, cor rosion research, and high purity alloy additions. The metal is provided as small chunks but can be supplied in specific shapes by extrusion or melting. Descriptive data sheets are available. 504 Infrared Emitting Phosphors Experimental infrared emitting phos phors are available in both powder and single crystal form from Semi-Ele ments, Inc. These are trademarked
