cussed a t t h e 17th Annual Summer Symposium on Analytical Chemistry at Cornell University, I t h a c a , Ν . Υ., J u n e 24 t o 26. T h e revolution in analytical chem­ istry caused b y new instrumental tech­ niques is exemplified in t h e rapid advances taking place in t h e field of s t r u c t u r e determination. Classi­ cal functional group reactions, spe­ cific derivatives, a n d spot tests are giv­ ing w a y t o a diverse a r r a y of tools, each of which can supply unique molecular s t r u c t u r e information. T h e Symposium will cover highlights in t h e new de­ velopments of a n u m b e r of these tech­ niques. A total of 14 technical p a p e r s are scheduled for presentation a t t h e Sum­ m e r Symposium, which is sponsored b y the ACS Division of Analytical Chem­ istry

A special event of t h e 1964 Summer Symposium will be t h e symposium ban­ quet which will be held a t t h e Statler I n n on t h e Cornell University c a m p u s T h u r s d a y night, J u n e 25. F e a t u r e d speaker will b e Nobel L a u r e a t e a n d Cornell Professor E m e r i t u s P e t e r J . W . Debye, w h o will present an address, "Molecular S t r u c t u r e in t h e Old D a y s . " T h e banquet, which will begin a t 7:00 P . M . will b e preceded b y a social hour starting a t 6:00 P . M . I t h a c a , Ν . Υ., can be reached b y plane via M o h a w k Airlines. Accommo­ dations for b o t h m e n a n d women will be available a t t h e Cornell University dormitories.
