Summer Conferences of Interest to Teachers Conference on Chemical Education A three-day conference on Chemical Education will be held from June 25-27,1979 a t Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Although the conference will involve sessions for the presentation of papers, a significant portion of the time will be devoted to small discussion groups and workshop sessions ta encourage mare effective interaction and exchange of ideas amonest the oarticioants. Taoies for thediscussion sessions will be develooed from the oaoers oresented and from their teaching programs. Papers on all aspects of Chemical Education (maximum length-two pages) are invited (closing date--April30th 1979) and should he sent to the organizer (address below) from whom further information can be ohtained. Organizer: Dr. F. W. Parrett, Department of Chemistry, Royal Military College of Canada, Kingston, Ontario, K7L 2W3, Canada Spectroscopy Conferences Arizona State University will again offer two different and distinct courses in spectroscopy during the summer of 1979. The nineteenth annual program in Applied Molecular Spectroscopy: Infrared-Raman-Ultraviolet, July 23-27 and the twenty fourth annual program in Modern Industrial Spectroscopy, August 6-17, are particularly designed for chemists and others from industrial laboratories which make use of spectrophotometric and spectrographic equipment, respectively. These intensive courses of lectures and practical laboratory work serve to train personnel to staff these installations. The instructional staff includes members of the Department of Chemistry a t Arizona State University augmented by guest lecturers from industrial laboratories. Enrollment in each course is limited and sufficient equipment is available to insure eachstudent adequate time forpersonal operation of the instruments. Thecost for the infrared program is $300 and the cost for the emission program is $600. For complete information please write t o Dr. Jacob Fuchs, Director, Modern Industrial Spectroscopy, Department of Chemistry, Arizona State University, Tempe, Arizona 85281.
