SYNTHESIS OF THIOL-REACTIVE LIPOPEPTIDE ADJUVANTS. INCORPORATION INTO LIPOSOMES AND STUDY OF THEIR MITOGENIC EFFECT ON MOUSE SPLENOCYTES Pages 541-553. The synthesis of Pam2GAG (19) and Pam2GAG-Mal (21) was based on the publication by J. W. Metzger et al. (1991) Int. J. Pept. Protein Res. 38, 545-554. Unfortunately we have discovered since that it contains errors in configuration assignments. For example, on page 552 of their publication the authors state that “Reaction with S-(-)-glycidol yields the respective R-configurated S-glycerylcyteinyl derivative”. This is incorrect, and for this particular compound R-(-)glycidol should be used as starting material. This error invalidates the configuration attributed to the stereochemically pure lipopeptides synthesized according to Metzger et al. The consequences for our own work are that compounds 19 and 21 are (S)-configured instead of (R) as published and thus are expected to be less biologically active than anticipated.
