sudden silence Life goes out of the room they leave, my good class, and I feel the change a parent feels on viewing her newly empty home sixteen mirrors just left me the fluttering of their movement still hangs in the air I, too, am poised for flight but I pause after the last departs and suddenly I am part of the room I belong to it as does the chalk, looking small, yet proprietary in its powdery tray then “we” becomes not me and them nor me and room but fades to me and me and the familiar voice whispers I am just a little girl but they believed me again today.
