in Two Temperature Ranges, 1850° F. or 2200° F. Hevi-Duty Combustion Tube Fur naces are available in either the split* (illustrated) or solid type and can be used horizontally or modified for vertical operation. Long-life "Multiple Unit" brand heating units offer fast heat-up because the heat is radiated direct ly into the heating chamber. The heated length may be divided for zone temperature control which gives greater temperature uniform ity over a specified length. A few of the standard furnaces are shown below. M a n y sizes are in stock. Special sizes with diameters up to 16 inches can be built to your specifications, ^ô-in. and smaller diameters are hinged. ACS Meeting Plans The Division of Analytical Chemis try has a full program scheduled for the 140th ACS National Meeting to be held at Chicago Sept. 3 to 8. In addition to general papers there will be symposia on emission spectros copy, eleetroanalytical chemistry, and chelation in analytical chemistry. A joint symposium will be held with the Division of Cellulose Chemistry on in strumental methods for the analysis of cellulose and cellulose derivatives. An other with the Division of Agricultural and Food Chemistry will consist of a workshop on methods for pesticide resi dues and food additives.

NIH Symposium-Exhibit Scheduled The 11th Annual Instrument Sym posium and Research Equipment Ex hibit will be held at the National In stitutes of Health, Bethesda, Md., October 9 to 12. Sponsors are Wash ington Sections of American Chemical Society, Instrument Society of America, American Association of Clinical Chem ists, Society of American Bacteriolo gists, Society of Applied Spectroscopy, and Society for Experimental Biology and Medicine. The technical session, a symposium on recent developments in research methods and instrumentation, will in clude such topics as applied gas chro matography, factors influencing inter pretation of spectra, electron magnetic resonance, thermogravimetric analysis, electron probe analysis, application of physiological instrumentation to clini cal problems, and optical rotatory dis persion. Dr. Julius Sendroy, Jr., Naval Medi cal Research Institute, Bethesda 14, Md., is in charge of the technical pro gram. Exhibit manager is Mr. James B. Davis, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda 14, Md. Chairman of the Committee of Manufacturers' Repre sentatives is Mr. Louis Heiss, American Instrument Co., Inc., 8030 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, Md.
