Chemists and Chemical Engineers:

Some answers to your questions about career opportunities with Monsanto What kind of a company would I be joining?

You would be joining a world-wide company that has grown from a single-product manufacturer to one of the largest chemical companies in the U.S. in 60 years. Today, Monsanto is a highly diversified producer of chemical, plastics and petroleum products. It operates 23 plants and 9 laboratories. . . has approximately 19,000 employees in this country alone. And Monsanto is still growing rapidly—in technology, new products, markets. Just how diversified is Monsanto?

Highly—and in several ways. We are diversified in products; numbered in the thousands, they serve industry, agriculture, national defense. The names of our seven Divisions—Agricultural, Organic, Inorganic, Hydrocarbons, Plastics, Overseas, Research & Engineering—give you some idea of our tremendous scope. We are diversified in activities; each Monsanto Division operates independently, yet all are united by common purpose and interchange of ideas, personnel and over-all policies. We are diversified in geography; with general headquarters in St. Louis, Monsanto maintains a vast complex of facilities throughout the U. S. and abroad. Organizationally, is Monsanto progressive?

Very definitely. Organizational.flexibility to meet the changing needs of the company and its customers is a company policy. Naturally, this philosophy of growth ultimately benefits you, the employee, too. * Here are two examples of Monsanto progress:

Hydrocarbons Division. Monsanto's newest Division was just recently formed to facilitate the manufacturing and marketing of petrochemicals produced by the company's new complex at Chocolate Bayou. Tex., monomers from its Texas City plant, and products of the Monsanto-owned Lion Oil Company. Monsanto Research Corporation. This wholly owned subsidiary is responsible for all Monsanto research and development activities for agencies of the Fed-

eral government. Most of its programs involve the solution of many problems of the Armed Services in our national defense, but programs for other agencies concerned with national health and welfare are also included. In addition, this Corporation manages Mound Laboratory, a research facility of the Atomic Energy Commission.

What general career areas are open to me?

Monsanto offers you a broad choice of opportunities in Research, Engineering, Manufacturing and Marketing. And—you're not "frozen" into the area of your initial assignment. Besides plenty of room for' vertical advancement, Monsanto offers opportunity for horizontal movement if your experience and professional growth reveal new interests and talents.

Where would I be located?
