The new heterocycle 1,3,5,7,2,6-tetragermadimercurocane, MezGeHgGe(Mez)CHzGe(Mez)HgGe(Mez)CHz , (l),was prepared in high yield from bis(dimethylgermy1)methane and di-tert-butylmercury. Thermal or UV photochemical decomposition of 1 leads to the 1,1,2,2,4,4,5,5-octethyl-1,2,4,5-perhydrotetr~erm~e, MezGeGe(Mez)CHzGe(Mez)Ge(Mez)CHz (2). 1 reacted with alkynes RC
